Marie Catherine Somoza

Marie Catherine Somoza, 67, of Bellflower, California, returned to our Lord on September 8, 2023, at 2:17 AM. She was born on November 20, 1955, in Bellflower, CA, to Frances and Modesto Chabolla. It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to Marie, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband, Art Somoza, her three children, Nicole, Neil, and Lance, and her three cherished grandchildren, Daphne, Riley, and Elizabeth. Her legacy is also carried on by her five siblings and a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Marie's life was deeply rooted in Bellflower, where she was born, raised, and resided throughout her entire journey. She was born to proud parents, Modesto and Frances Chabolla, and was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her second set of parents, Joe and Hilda Somoza, and her niece, Lora Somoza, whom we all dearly miss every day. Marie's spirit was a force of nature, marked by her humor, capable ways, and brilliant mind. She possessed strength, determination, and a generous heart that touched everyone she met. While she could be strong-willed and stubborn at times, her loyalty and bravery were unmatched. Marie will be remembered for the life she shared with her devoted husband, Arthur Michael Somoza, whom she lovingly spent 38 years alongside. Together, they shared a deep love for music, sports, dancing, and above all, their children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She graduated from Bellflower High School and completed most of her college Associates Degree requirements at Cerritos College and ELAC. Throughout her life, Marie was a constant presence at Kaiser Permanente Downey, where she spent 35 dedicated years working. She made lifelong friends and was known for her keen eye for grammar and spelling. She had a love for travel, playing slot machines, and enjoying an occasional adult beverage. Her passion for dance was only rivaled by her love for rock and roll legend Bob Seger. Marie was often the life of the party, her vibrant energy lighting up any gathering. In the end, she battled numerous afflictions including CRPS and Cancer, enduring continuous pain and discomfort. However, when her time came, she faced it with dignity, strength, and unwavering faith. Marie Catherine Somoza may have left us, but her memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. As we mourn her passing, we find solace in the cherished memories of her laughter, wisdom, and love. She now rests in the loving embrace of her God and her parents, free from pain.
