Kenneth Ray Kos

Kenneth Ray Kos was born March24, 1954 to Bernardus and Elsie Kos in Hanford, Calif. He lived in Lemoore on his parent’s chicken farm until he was 8 years old. His family then moved south to Lakewood Calif. He graduated from Mayfair High School. As a young teenager he had a paper route. He would always stop at Winchell’s Donuts on Bellflower Blvd to get a donut. One day the Owner of McCoys Markets asked him if he wanted a job as “bottle boy” at the Market. He accepted and worked his way up to Manager of a Store. In 1981 he started working for Von’s grocery and worked there for 35 years until retiring 10 years ago this month. Ken met his wife Lennae at Bell 1 Christian Reformed Church in 1972. They dated for 3 years and were married in 1975. When they got married, they bought their first house, but Ken told Lennae not to get attached to a house. Thus, they moved 13 times in the next 20 years, but thankfully have been in the same house for the last 35 years. They had 2 children, Keith and Kimberly. When Keith bought the house across the street he would love to go over and have coffee with him every morning. Kimberly is a great baker and he would ask her to bake him something special and she always would do that for him. Ken enjoyed dabbling in real estate. He had rentals here and there and then built a complex in 1988 and still has that to this day. He also became an avid deep-sea fisherman. He loved to go on week long trips down to Mexico. He would bring back tuna and halibut. He started canning the tuna. It was very tasty. He also loved to golf with his friends, until he got Neuropathy in his legs and was unable to do so. He was an avid gardener and loved to BBQ. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He also seemed to like to give people nicknames. Some of you here may be one of those with a nickname. Ken was a very hard worker. He loved working and helping others. He loved his family and his friends. We will miss him deeply. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Elsie and his sister Barbara. He leaves behind his wife, Lennae, and children Keith and Kimberly.
